The Houston Zoo

The boys and I took an impromptu trip out to the zoo.  We are lucky enough to have a family membership (Thanks Grandma Joyce and Grandpa Jack) and decided we needed something different to do.  We hadn't been out since they'd opened the new African Forest exhibit and we wanted to see the new baby giraffe and elephants.
Drew playing the drums in the African exhibit
 Josh playing along
 Dancing to the rhythm

 Baby giraffe
Drew brushing the goats in the petting zoo (this was our first time going in and he did a great job!  Josh didn't want anything to do with it, but was happy enough to follow along)
Elephants (it looked like the baby was getting lessons)

We had a great day at the zoo and hope to make it out there many more times in the coming year!!

Josh's 2nd Birthday

I can hardly believe that Josh is already 2!  He's such a special part of our family and definitely has his own personality and attitude.  He loves his big brother and watches everything that he does.  He's very adventuresome and into everything.  There's never a dull moment around here!

We went to a park with some friends the morning of his birthday and he had a great time exploring and just having fun!
Climbing down the stairs (doesn't he look so grown up?)
 Climbing up a rock
 So proud of himself!
For dinner we went out to Double Dave's for pizza before church.
Mom, that's enough pictures - let me eat my pizza!
 Time for cupcakes
 Delicious!

 Mommy and the birthday boy

On Saturday we celebrated Josh's birthday with family.  He wanted a "Choo-Choo" party.  That seems to be the thing to do when you're a 2 year old in the Wiggins household!  As usual, I made the cake and I think I'm getting better the more experience I get!!  It turned out really cute!

(He didn't want to blow out the candles this time, I think all the attention was a little much for him)
But, the cake was delicious and received a hearty seal of approval!

Bluebonnets in Texas

There's an unwritten rule about being a mommy in the state of Texas.  You must take pictures of your children surrounded by bluebonnets each Spring.  Luckily for us there is a great park nearby that seeds part of their field with bluebonnets (otherwise you'd have to find a nice side of highway and try to keep your independent toddlers from running out into traffic!)  I think we were a little late this year, because the flowers were definitely on their way out.  It's already gotten pretty warm around here and it's so dry that things just aren't lasting very long.  Oh well, at least we got something!

A New New Year's Tradition

This year we started a new tradition for New Year's with the boys.  (At least it might be a tradition - it's only the first year, so we'll see...)  After dinner we all went out in the backyard and Russell lit the firepit.  After the fire burned a little bit and the boys had fun running around in the dark we roasted marshmellows.  The boys were very interested in the whole process, but not so interested in the actual roasted marshmellows (although they loved the "raw" ones out of the bag!).  Russell is a master marshmellow maker (everyone should have their own personal Eagle Scout!) and hopefully will pass along his skill to the next generation.
