We've survived

Well, we've officially survived our first week alone as a family of four. We were so fortunate to have Gigi stay with us for the first 2 weeks (while we were in the hospital and through the first full week at home). This week it was just me and the boys. There are certainly going to be times of transition, but I'm confident that we'll be just fine. Josh is such a good baby and Drew is a wonderful big brother. Now, if only I could figure out how to get a little more sleep, but that will come. For now, I'm trying to remind myself that this time will pass all too fast and before I know it my babies will be all grown up.

Now, in unrelated news, but for the sake of my own memories: Drew has started consistently using adjectives this week and it's so cute. Now he'll describe things using color or size or name labels. Examples: blue cup, green car, Josh room, Dada shoe, little bus, etc.

Take time to smell the flowers...

Drew and Gigi decided that we needed new flowers in our flowerpots (and I have to agree). Drew had a great time going to Home Depot to help pick out flowers and then digging in the dirt to help plant. He wasn't too keen on the idea of actually getting dirty or using his hands, but as long as he had a shovel he as a happy camper! They did a great job and it makes our mailbox and back patio look so much prettier and brings a smile to my face when I see it. (Drew keeps wanting to look out and "check" on the flowers - he's so proud!)

1 week

I can't believe it's already been a week since Josh was born and became a full-fledged member of our family! It already seems like he's always been here. Drew is making the transition beautifully and is such a help. He's a wonderful big brother! While I'm sure there will be times of trial and frustration, so far he seems completely accepting of Josh and his place in our family. I'm slowly recovering from surgery and am struggling to find a balance between my own recovery and trying to regain control of my home and family. Gigi is here to help us for the next week, for which I am eternally grateful. I still can't really make it up the stairs and I'm not supposed to lift anything heavier than 10 pounds. This makes it difficult at times for Drew to understand, but we're managing to cope. Josh is such a good baby! We have been incredibly blessed. He rarely cries, he's a great nurser (fast and efficient - just like Drew was) and he sleeps pretty well too. I'm dealing with the lack of sleep better this time than last (probably because my body has become more accustomed to less sleep). We took him for his 1 week check-up and he's already regained his birthweight (plus an ounce!). The doctor said he looks great and doesn't need to come back until he's a month old. Overall, we're doing great!!!

Easter fun

We had a wonderful Easter weekend celebrating both the joy of the resurrection and the "fun" side of Easter. Drew got to try his hand out at dyeing eggs with Daddy and had lots of fun "helping" to stir the dye and dip the eggs. This should be a fun tradition to continue from year to year as the boys get older.

Drew and Daddy (and Gigi) went to church Sunday morning while Josh, Aunt Becca and I stayed home. Drew looked so cute in his little sweater vest and shirt!!

After church, Drew got to hunt eggs in the backyard and had a great time. He was so quick and loved looking for them in the pots and hiding in the grass.

And, what would Easter be without a visit from the Easter bunny? You'd think we had 12 kids by the looks of the loot, but I promise there are only 2 of them (we just have Easter bunnies that live in several different states!)

Home Sweet Home

We came home from the hospital last night and have officially started our lives as a family of four. I'll post pictures when I get a chance. Thank you all for your prayers (please don't stop!) and your kind words. We are certainly blessed to have wonderful friends and family to surround us and support us.

He's here!

Introducing our newest family member...Joshua David Wiggins!! He was born at 12:42pm on April 6, 2009. Weighing in at 8lbs., 3.2oz. and measuring 20 1/2 inches long. He has a little bit of light hair and grayish blue eyes. He is absolutely precious and has already cemented his place in our hearts. We're so excited to be able to hold him in our arms and are excited to watch him grow and develop. We're both doing great (the second c-section is definitely easier than the first!!) and expect to go home on Thursday or Friday. Here are a few pics from our first day...

The final hours...

Well, we've finally made it!! Josh will be making his grand appearance into the world in about 5 hours and we'll go from being a family of 3 to a family of 4! It's almost surreal to me that this day is actually here. We've spent so much time preparing and planning and now we actually get to meet this new little person that God has blessed our family with. After months of feeling him move and tumble inside me I will finally get to hold him in my arms in just a few short hours. (There is a small part of me that isn't quite ready for this phase to end. It's 'easy' to take care of 2 little boys when one of them is still inside. Also, this is likely my final pregnancy, and although it hasn't been all smiles and rainbows, there's a little bit of sadness that I won't experience this awesome miracle again - unless of course God has other plans for us!) Please keep our entire family in your prayers in the coming hours, days, weeks, and months. This will be quite a transition, but we are excited to see what new adventures lie ahead for us!

38 weeks (almost there!!)

Today was our final doctor's appointment before Josh's arrival! According to my doctor everything has stayed the same and we're looking good for delivery on Monday as planned!! I can't believe that it's finally here and we are literally just days from holding him in our arms. For now I'm trying to enjoy these last few moments of squirming (and punching) and trying to rest as much as possible (while still getting a few more things done around the house).
